116 - House of the Dragon: Prelude

With House of the Dragon premiering this week, on this episode we are discussing the events that led to one of the most significant periods in Targaryen history, the Dance of Dragons.  

SPOILERS 

Two hundred years before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire, the Targaryens stood as the dominant rulers of Westeros, a legacy founded by Aegon the Conqueror. Decades later a succession dispute between Princess Rhaenyra and Aegon II resulted in one of the bloodiest conflicts in the continent's history, a war that marked the beginning of the end of the royal house! 

In our 'prelude' episode we cover the reigns of King Jaehaerys I and his grandson Viserys I, the schemes of the Hightowers, the court rivalries and the first battles that launched the civil war!
