"Take your stinking paw off me, you damn dirty ape!"
With the newest instalment arriving in cinemas in May, THCC go back to review the previous chapters of the rebooted franchise, starting with Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011).
When Dr Will Rodman attempts to find a cure for Alzheimer's, he genetically enhances a chimpanzee called Caesar.
Soon the young ape is thrust into the dangerous world of captivity and must make a decision of where he belongs, with the humans or his own kind.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes tells the origin story of the ape uprising and answers the unexplored questions posed in the original 1968 film. How did apes become the dominant species? How did human civilization collapse? On top of these questions we discuss themes of 'uplift' sci-fi, playing God and humanity vs nature.
