In the early hours of August 8th 1963, a gang of 15 criminals robbed the Royal Mail train heading from Glasgow to London at Bridego Railway Bridge, stealing £2.6 million (equivalent to £56 million today) and setting off a great police investigation to hunt them down. Dubbed "the crime of the century" this robbery became one of the most significant cases in British contemporary history with the robbers became celebrities of their time.
In our 10th instalment of THCC we delve into this event, discussing the historical context, lives of the robbers, from Bruce Reynolds to Ronnie Biggs, the heist, the subsequent investigation and its legacy today.
